Highchairs without trays
These chairs can be pushed right up to your dining table, so your baby can eat from the table along with the rest of the family.
Highchairs with trays
These chairs are self-contained with their own surface for feeding or playing with toys, dough, paint etc. They are a good choice if you don't have a suitable table to use, or you don't want to risk ruining your fine antique dining table (!). They also have the advantage that you can sit directly opposite your baby when feeding, rather than side-on which can be uncomfortable.
Folding Highchairs
As the name suggests, these can be easily folded flat to take up less space when not being used. They are good if space is at a premium, or can be used as a semi-portable highchair for travelling, or where they're not going to be permanently used e.g. at grandma's house.
Multiposition chairs
These highchairs are for more than just eating at the table. They will often have reclining seats, and even rocking mechanisms, allowing them to be used for afternoon naps as well as feeding.
As your baby grows, they can also usually be converted into toddler-size dining chairs, giving the chair at least a couple of years of extra usefulness.
